Philodendron Imperial Red – medium

£14.00

This is one of Jo’s (my mother-in-law, excellent conservatory keeper, maker of handsome men extraordinaire) favourites. We’ve had the large ones in since we opened but I am a little bit in love with these smaller ones and I think they’re a but less of an investment space-wise .

The new kid on the block the Imperial Red is a pretty magic plant. He won’t climb like other Philodendrons and his leaves are incredible. Starting out very red when they’re young leaves, they’ll transition through to deep purple and then finally green

Philo is derived from the Greek meaning love and dendron meaning tree… Imperial Red Love Tree. How fab.

Light

This one prefers a little less light than most. He can tolerate shade but will grow much better in dappled/lightly shaded light.

Water

Wait until the top 3cm of soil are dry before giving him a good drink. Water less frequently during the winter months.

Humidity

Being a South American rainforest native this guy likes it moist. Get yourself a mister. He also wouldn’t mind hanging out in your bathroom or kitchen. He can tolerate household humidity too.

Temperature

He’s a jungle baby so this means your Imperial Red will like it warm. Somewhere between 16 – 24 degrees and he’ll be ship shape.

Food

Your Red Imperial needs no extra food, you can feed him sparingly with very watered down fertiliser if you wish but he shouldn’t need it.

Toxicity

This plant is toxic if ingested so keep away from any nibblers.

Dimensions 14 × 35 cm
